Invisible Man

This artist paints himself...  no 'SFX'...  just an idea and paint...  SIMPLY powerful!...

35-year-old Chinese artist Liu Bolin, brings camouflage to a whole new level, and gives new meaning to the Eastern idea of 'being' one with the landscape', that is, urban landscape... In his photographs, like this one of the 'Bird's Nest' (remember the Olympics), "No. 86 Hiding in the City", who is he hiding from?... the Chinese Government?  The website, 'Oddity Central" says, "his art is a protest against the actions of the 'Government' who shut down his art studio in 2005".  In his own unique way, what a Beautiful and Powerful protest!

Can you find the artist here?

Bolin's photographs are 'low-tech'... all paint and no 'Photoshop'!

Despite problems with the Chinese authorities, Bolin's photographs and sensibility are in keeping with traditional Chinese painting for centuries, "the most distictive element is the void or empty space for "no-thing-ness," which offers a spatial threshold for contemplation and quietude, for refreshment and solace."

TUNE in tomorrow, I'll be blogging about an illustrator whose beautiful work includes a children's book, teaching Chinese characters to young readers...
